The Tzedek Impact Awards, offered through the Tzedek Social Justice Fund, recognizes community members who have worked to shift policies, affect cultural change, and respond to immediate needs for those who have been harmed by systems of oppression. BIPOC, LGBTQ, and Jewish individuals are encouraged to apply.
“We are honored to support the local leaders who ensure that Asheville is a place where everyone can thrive. Much of the work they have accomplished is often unpaid and underrecognized. The Impact Awards give us the opportunity to highlight unsung heroes in our community.” – Marsha Davis, Executive Director.
Impact Awards are designed to honor individuals who have engaged in systems change or community healing work in the Asheville region using the wisdom gained by directly navigating systems of oppression. If selected, applicants will receive $3,000 for unpaid work in specific areas of social justice. The deadline for the final 2021 round is October 1st. Decisions will be made by October 15th. To access the application and applicant criteria, visit Tzedek’s website. Applicants can reach out for support during the nomination process by emailing brilliance@tzedeksocialjusticefund.org.
Now in its third year, the Tzedek Impact Awards represent one shift in the organization towards models of grantmaking that are increasingly trust-based as they seek to transform the inequitable history and oppressive culture of philanthropy. Awards are typically given three times a year. Community members are encouraged to nominate themselves for the Impact Award.
The Tzedek Social Justice Fund has been supporting the social justice work of grassroots organizations, collectives and cooperatives, nonprofits, and local leaders since the late 1980’s. We fund work that is centered on LGBTQ justice, racial justice, and combatting antisemitism.
