Moving forward our programming will focus on Asheville and sustaining the gorgeous leaders who are already here and working for change in this community. We are also moving towards aligning a larger portion of our grantmaking with this local focus so we can magnify impact in this community. Our focal areas are remaining the same. Our programming and grantmaking will center racial justice, LGBTQ justice, and combatting anti-Jewish oppression. One thing to name about this third focal area. AMKRF’s funding comes from the Morton and Barbara Mandel Family Foundation which has a mandate that the resources be used in ways that support Jewish communities. One of our creative tasks moving forward will be to integrate what we learn in this research process--what the community prioritizes--alongside the mandate that our work wrestle with combating anti-Jewish oppression. We are in a process of community based research where we’ve asked for the community to share your expertise. And we want to be transparent on the front end that staff will be making decisions based on that information. We don’t know exactly what that process will look like but we want to own that there will be decisions to be made at some point and staff will play a prominent role in that process. There is a co-created myth that AMKRF has unlimited resources. I/we have helped promote this myth by too often trying to be everything to everyone. AMKRF’s financial resources are abundant but there is a limited fund that is available to work from each year to cover all costs of any programming and grantmaking. So lots is possible, and some things that are needed are beyond our capacity. What We Don’t Know… In our informal conversations, folks have assumed that we’re refining the Tzedek Fellowship. But our work is much deeper and more exciting. We are open to our offerings looking wildly different than what we’ve offered in the past. Will it be a Fellowship? A sabbatical program? An operations support hub? A hybrid? We don’t know, and that’s exactly why we’re so excited to hear from y’all and the folks that will be a part of the community interviews. And there’s tons more we don’t know that we’ll be learning on the way."}
